Fiddler on the Roof

Aaaaah. Dun pala yung "Matchmaker, matchmaker" and "If I were a rich man…" na songs. Was totally clueless what this musical was all about; but I know it’s popular. So, for cultural enrichm ent, I just gotta watch. Hahaha :o)

Three hours. Some parts were dragging. Didn’t like the actress who played Tzeitel (Samantha Sewell) ‘coz she somewhat lacked expression/feeling [aside: the next day, I found out I know Sam pala --- she's a niece of Betty whom we were with in Bicol almost two years ago. Nyah!]. Cris Villongco as Hodel was good; I liked her clear voice. Miguel Faustmann as Mig_main1Tevye carried the entire show — he was really great and funny that I consider the musical a good watch na rin.

My high school classmate, Danielle Barredo, and her sister, Cara Barredo, were also in the cast.

Two bothersome incidental matters:
1. It was awfully cold at the OnStage 2/F Greenbelt.

2. The people who "stole" our seats after the mid-break despite us leaving a program to indicate said seats were taken. Yes, we came back around 5 minutes late…still, no excuse to get our seats immediately. Sana wait naman at least 30 mins to ‘decide’ na hindi na talaga siguro babalik those who previously sat on the chairs you’re gonna transfer to. Hay, manners, manners!

fave shows update

CSI Season 8:  finished Episode 9 (Cockroaches). A brewing problem with Warrick. Two episodes ago, a character bid the show goodbye — for good na talaga ‘coz she is no longer in the opening credits of episode 8 eh.

Heroes Season 2: finished Episode 10 (Truth & Consequences).  Hay, we’re so getting wary at Mohinder’s lack of better judgment, Sylar’s evilness, and Peter’s confused state.  Parang headless chickens lagi the ‘heroes’ eh; while the evil ones are constant in their schemes.  Because of the screenwriter’s strike in the US, the show will temporarily end with Episode 11 (Powerless).

How I Met Your Mother Season 3: finished Episode 10 (The Yips).  Still funny and entertaining!

The Amazing Race 12:  Shucks, I missed a couple of episodes na. Very diverse teams!

The Amazing Race Asia 2: rooting for Rovilson & Marc (they’re really good); kinda embarassed sometimes with Terri & Henry (she is too loud); i like Jap-siblings Daichi & Sawaka (they’re soo cute and ria-in-jap-mode); Paula & Natasha are good too (I find Paula pretty); i liked Brett & Kinaryosih but they lacked some competitive spirit; Edwin & Monica deserved to be ousted first (why did they join ba kasi?).  Ang happy, two pit stops in the Philippines!

That 70’s Show marathon: will start on Season 8 na! Season 7 ended with Eric leaving for Africa (Topher Grace was to film Spider Man 3 then) — sooo sad!

Hang a Christmas décor, help an Atenean

Christmas tree for Ateneo Annual FundOn this very special season of Christmas, it is often forgotten that the real meaning of the celebration is the fact that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was born into this world to give the greatest gift to mankind. Hence, the idea of gift giving is to honor Jesus Christ for He has given us a gift that we can never repay.

However, we can always thank Him for what He has done for us by continuing the tradition of giving at this time of the year. Just as we give to those who are members of our family, we should not forget to also give to our Ateneo family. What better way can there be than to give to the Ateneo Annual Fund with its goal of “Ateneans Helping Ateneans.”

The Ateneo Annual Fund was conceived to provide assistance to our fellow Ateneans who may, in the course of their studies at the Ateneo de Manila University, encounter family and financial difficulties which may possibly jeopardize the continuation and completion of their studies. The assistance may be in various forms, including loans and outright grants.

christmas ornamentsThis Christmas Season, we are launching a novel way to give to the Ateneo Annual Fund. We have set up a Christmas Tree at the lobby of Xavier Hall with NO decorations at the onset. For a P200 donation, one is given the opportunity to hang a Christmas ornament which will be personalized with a name of the donor’s choice. Our goal is to transform this plain tree into a Christmas tree truly representative of the generous and caring spirit of the entire Ateneo community. Further, to symbolize our unity with the University’s Sesquicentennial celebration which culminates in 2009, we plan to install at least 150 Christmas ornaments on the AAF Christmas tree.

AAF Christmas treeIf your heart is compelled to remember Christmas in its true essence of giving, simply go to the GS, HS and LS Cashiers’ Offices or visit us at the Office of University Development & Alumni Relations, Room 213 Xavier Hall, and share with us your donation until December 21, 2007. If you prefer to personally hang the Christmas décor on the tree, you can come and do so the day after you make your donation. On January 7, we will take the tree down and you are free to get the Christmas décor that was on the tree as souvenir of your participation in this effort. You may even want to hang it on your family Christmas tree next year.

LET US ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT THE REAL MEANING OF CHRISTMAS IS THE GIVING AND NOT RECEIVING OF GIFTS.

it’s that time of the year again…

Simbanggabi 2007, December 15 - 23

Simbanggabi at the Church of the Gesù

The Simbanggabi, a university tradition during the Advent Season, was initiated by the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations in December 2000. In the first two years, the novena Masses were held at the Immaculate Conception Chapel of the Loyola Schools. In December 2002, the Simbanggabi celebrations moved to the newly constructed Church of the Gesù and have been held there since.

Since the first year of the Simbanggabi tradition in December 2000, the Masses have had an overflow crowd of members of the Ateneo community, the alumni and their families and friends. The sponsorship of Masses by alumni batches and student organizations is an opportunity to get together for mini reunions and to visit the Loyola campus. The Jesuit presiders’ homilies and the beautiful singing of the Ateneo choirs are considered to be main attractions of the Simbanggabi. Food concessionaires are invited to add to the fiesta atmosphere of this Filipino and Catholic tradition.

The Simbanggabi novena Masses are held annually from December 15 - 23 at 8:30 in the evening. The novena of Masses starts with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:00 in the evening on December 15.

The numerous requests from the Ateneo community and the alumni gave way to the culmination of the Simbanggabi with a Christmas Eve Mass on December 24 at 10:00 in the evening.
