one more chance

Omc I guess I built up my excitement for this movie too much that I had way too high expectations for it.

Nah, the movie isn’t bad nor disappointing really; it’s just that what I saw in the trailer was mostly it…and less (the scene at the pool?  that wasn’t in the movie per se; it can be seen at the credits part lang).

Storywise, maybe a lot of other couples can relate and find the movie great.  For me, I was just wondering, are there really guys that ‘devoted’ to settling down?  Or that maasikaso to the point of peeling chicken skin for their partners?  Also, I guess, unlike Basha, I haven’t reached (and hopefully not ever) that point of being too dependent on Kris.  On the contrary, we respectively lead independent lives that I sometimes even joke our relationship is second/third/fourth fiddle already in our list of priorities.  And to call Kris for vehicular problems; hahahaha, I think I’d rather pop the hood myself. Oh and bathroom pipes busting, Betty and I got more tools and repair experiences!

Conflictwise, I was thinking, oo nga, ang drastic naman for Popoy na break-up agad solution ni Basha to their situation.  I mean, they haven’t even fully discussed their issues yet.  Yeah, she tried to bring up the matter, but she really didn’t even make the guy get it and try to reform first.  Five years in a relationship…aren’t they supposed to try to work it out first?  Oh well, to each her/his own.

The acting, lines, and cast were great. Kinda realistic and not cheesy. JL and Bea really look and have good chemistry together.  I also super like the supporting actors/actresses (the common friends of the couple); they act and sound so natural that I can imagine my closest friends and I do/say the same things.  I just didn’t like the way Maja Salvador speak though — parang hirap.

Overall, I think One More Chance is still a good watch.

Batasan Blast

Thank God Cong. RRA was at the North Wing and that Atty. Mane was fetched at the South Wing five minutes earlier!

Ironic; it was my Glorietta-Blast-survivor friend, Shey, who initially told me about this incident.

2 dead in Batasan blast
By Delon Porcalla
Wednesday, November 14, 2007

A suspected car bomb exploded outside the entrance lobby of the Batasan complex in Quezon City last night, killing Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar and a driver and wounding at least 12 others.

Initial reports said the blast occurred at 8:15 p.m at the south wing entrance of the House of Representatives just as the lawmakers were leaving the building after the adjournment of the session.

Akbar, a former Abu Sayyaf member, died at the FEU hospital in Fairview. Police are looking into the possibility that he was the principal target.

The other fatality was identified as Marcial Rualdo, driver of Gabriela party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan. The two  injured congressmen were Ilagan and Negros Oriental Rep. Henry Teves. Teves’ niece Ma-an Bustalino was also reportedly injured and is in critical condition.

The injured were brought to Malvar Hospital on Commonwealth Avenue Quezon City.

President Arroyo ordered Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr. to supervise the investigation. She asked Razon to determine immediately the cause of the blast and submit periodic reports to the Palace “as warranted.”

Metro Manila and Regions 3 and 4 have been placed under red alert.

Director Geary Barias, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, said a remote detonating device was found at the blast site in the south wing.

The gate to Batasan was closed to the public. Firemen arrived at around

8:20 p.m.

Authorities from Quezon City Police Station 6 also arrived in the area.

Rep. Joel Villlanueva told dzBB that it was a “very loud explosion.”

Speaker Jose de Venecia, who reportedly left a few minutes before the bomb exploded, condemned in strongest terms “this cowardly and dastardly act on the House of Representatives,” saying it was “the work of a terrorist or an anarchist.”

He said there would most likely be sessions tomorrow. “We would like to show these cowardly terrorists, whoever they are, that we are not afraid of them,” he added.

The lawmakers were debating the cheap medicine bill and had adjourned when the bomb went off.

De Venecia ordered the House security and police to conduct a “clean sweep” of the 16-hectare Batasan complex “to make sure that there are no bombs left behind.”

Sen. Loren Legarda said the incident was “truly unfortunate and disturbing.”

“We must secure the Senate and public utilities and assure the public that they are safe in public places,” she said in a text message.

Senate minority leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. asked the Arroyo administration to “identify, arrest, and prosecute” those responsible for the blast but warned her against “doing a Musharraf” by suspending civil liberties.

He was referring to Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf who recently abolished his country’s constitution and declared martial law purportedly as part of his government’s war on terror.

Senate president Manuel Villar also condemned the bombing and ordered tighter security at the Senate. -with Christina Mendez

I complained here before about irritating calls from various credit card companies.  Except for the one in partnership with Ateneo Alumni (which I already got), I declined the offers of said companies’ agents.

Last week, one officemate told me an AIG Credit Card agent did a credit investigation about me over the telephone.

What?!

One, kakahiya these CIs (make me appear as if i got lots of utang and I’m so sabik with many credit cards).  Two, I know I specifically declined AIG’s pre-approved offer ‘coz I am not familiar with it nor do my friends got it (actually, I remember I was even forceful when I blew off the agent who called ‘coz he’s like the -nth caller that day).

Just now, a messenger came to the office…to deliver my AIG Dolce Vita Credit Card.

What the heck?!

Father Pedro Arrupe, S.J.
28th General of the Society of Jesus

Father PEDRO ARRUPE, S.J., born 14 November 1907 in Bilbao, Spain, entered the Jesuit Order on 15 January 1927. Ordained priest on 30  July 1936, he spent 27 years as a missionary in Japan, and was novicemaster at Hiroshima when the atomic bomb was dropped there, On 22 May 1965 he was elected 28th General Superior of the Jesuits, and in the years following emerged as one of the really outstanding leaders of the post-Vatican II renewal-within his own Order, in apostolic religious life generally, and in the worldwide Church, through his winning charismatic personality, his optimism in faith, courage, simplicity of spirit and boundless energy, his creative initiative, his profound life of prayer, his obvious love for people and above all, his burning, all-encompassing passion for Jesus Christ, his Gospel, his Church. On 7 August 1981, returning to Rome after a visit to the Philippines, he suffered a massive stroke which incapacitated him and eventually led to his resignation from his post in September 1983. From 1981 till his death on 5 February 1991, he underwent a long period of great suffering and growing helplessness, until, as he himself said, he truly experienced being totally and absolutely in the hands of God.

Since his death many favors, great and small, have been attributed to his intercession before the Lord. His mortal remains rest in the Jesuit church in the Gesù in Rome.

Prayer for the Glorification of

FR. PEDRO ARRUPE, S.J.

Father in heaven, in your providence you gave us your servant Father Pedro Arrupe, son of St. Ignatius Loyola and his successor as General of the Jesuit Order. Through the grace of the Spirit, you made him one of the outstanding leaders of the renewal in the life of the Church in our time.

Through his intercession, we beg you, Father to grant us the petition we ask from you. (The grace and favor, the healing…you are seeking.) May your answer to our prayer be for your greater glory, and for the glorification of Father Arrupe as your faithful servant in the holy Church, the communion of saints.

Teach us, Jesus, to live and die like Father Arrupe, who loved you and followed you with all his heart and soul, and sought nothing but the fulfillment of Father’s holy will, in life and labor, in suffering and in death.

All this we ask, in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

          Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory…
