some songs to uplift the soul

If I Could Touch You

If I could touch You, I’d heal Your broken palms
If I could hold You in my arms
I’d call the soft breeze to caress Your weary arms
I’d call the moonbeam to dispel this darkest night
If I could touch You, I would

If I could hear You, Your words of anguish
If You’d just whisper in my ear
The sadness weighing down Your heart that no man sees
If You’d just call me, I would sing of flaming hope
If I could hear You, I would

Long have I waited for you to hear My cry
Long have I waited for you to answer My plea
What you do to you brethren You do it for Me
I am in the brokennes and woundedness of man

COUNTERPOINT:
Yes, you can touch Me
I’m in the least of your brethren
I’m in the weak and small
I need your hands to bear My weary arms
I need your touch to heal My wounded palms.
Yes, you can touch Me
Yes, you can hear Me

Manoling wrote this song as a prayer to Christ crucified.

it’s amusing that the third verse and counterpoint gave new insights after years of listening to this song…

In My Heart

REFRAIN:
In my heart I know my Savior lives
I can hear Him calling tenderly my name
Over sin and death He has prevailed
In His glory, in His new life we partake

I know He lives as He has promised
For me He’s risen that from fear I may be free
Not even death can separate me
From Him whose love and might remain in me (REFRAIN)

For I have seen and touched Him risen
To all the world will I proclaim His majesty
With joy I sing to tell His story
That in our hearts may live His memory (REFRAIN)

And all the earth shall bow before Him
His blessed name all will adore on bended knee
His truth shall reign, so shall His justice
In Christ, my Savior, let all glory be (REFRAIN)

CODA:
In my heart I know my Savior lives
In His glory, in His new life we partake

This song wishes to communicate Mary Magdalene’s joy over Christ’s resurrection. Originally, only a refrain and two stanzas were written by Manoling. But Dulce suggested that he write a third stanza. Suddenly, while doing his laundry, the lyrics of the third stanza came spontaneously.
Awit ng Paghahangad
based on Psalm 63
Lyrics and Music by Charlie Cenzon, SJ

O D’yos Ikaw and laging hanap
Loob ko’y Ikaw ang tanging hangad
Nauuhaw akong parang tigang na lupa
Sa tubig ng ‘Yong pag-aaruga.

Ika’y pagmamasdan sa dakong banal
Nang makita ko ang ‘Yong pagkarangal
Dadalangin akong nakataas aking kamay
Magagalak na aawit ng papuring iaalay.

Refrain:
Gunita ko’y ikaw habang nahihimlay
Pagka’t ang tulong Mo sa t’wina’y taglay.
Sa lilim ng Iyong mga pakpak,
Umaawit akong buong galak.

Umaawit, umaawit, umaawit akong buong galak..

I Seek You For I Thirst Lyrics

Refrain:
Though many times I run from you in shame
I lift my hands and call upon Your name
For underneath the shadow of Your wings
My melody is You

Oh Lord I seek You for I thirst
Your mercy is the rain on the desert of my soul

Oh Lord I raise my lifeless eyes
And see Your glory shine, how your kindness overflows (refrain)

Oh Lord Your sanctuary calls
I yearn to be with You in the rivers of Your love (refrain)

obviously i’ve been listening to my Bukas Palad tapes extensively to draw strength and for inspiration…
